在國外cheers並不是真的把杯中物喝光，而只是飲用前的一個招呼說法。
在英國 cheers也有「謝謝」的意思。
情境對話
A: I want to toast the new bride and groom. 我想向新郎新娘敬酒。
B: Cheers! 乾杯
還可以這麼說：
- Bottomps up. 乾了
- Chug! Chugalug! 喝!喝光! (
chug-a-lug【俚】一飲而盡；咕嘟咕嘟地喝) Down the hatch! 乾杯! 乎乾啦!
- Drink up. 乾杯!
A: What time is it? 現在幾點？
B: It’s time to go. Drink up. 是該走了，乾杯吧!
